Phase Three: Map Target Solutions
Topic Last Modified: 2006-09-14
In the previous phases, information was collected and grouped based on functionality, replication, and design templates. The conditions for determining which applications should be left on Lotus Domino or moved to an off-the-shelf solution or moved to a solution that involves customization were defined.
This phase incorporates further analysis of this data, identifying the appropriate solution and the method for moving to that solution, if necessary.
In some scenarios, it may be appropriate to move the application to a platform that has already been deployed in the environment, such as SAP, Siebel, or PeopleSoft.
Other applications may be moved to a product that can be purchased off the shelf, such as SalesForce.com, to improve the application's functionality. In many situations, it is preferable to build a custom solution on a Microsoft or other platform that provides the best strategic solution.
Because Lotus Notes is a development platform, the types and usage of the legacy applications varies significantly. It is common that the recommendations span the various types of solutions identified above.
Also, review the collected data to determine where the applications should be physically located based on network bandwidth and availability and user distribution.
