How to Prepare the Exchange Migration Wizard for an Internet Messaging System migration

This topic describes how to prepare the Exchange Migration Wizard for an Internet messaging system migration.

Before You Begin

To successfully complete the procedure in this topic, ensure that the server on which you run the Exchange Migration Wizard meets the following requirements:

  • The server is running Exchange Server 2003.

  • You have network connectivity to the Internet messaging system.

  • You have administrative permissions in Exchange 2003.

  • Using the Exchange Migration Wizard, you have exported recipient information from the Internet messaging system through LDAP.

Procedure

To prepare the Exchange Migration Wizard for an Internet messaging system migration

  1. On the server running Exchange 2003, start Windows Explorer and open the D:\MAPI.001 folder, which is the folder that the Exchange Migration Wizard created earlier for the migration files.

  2. Open the file called imapusr.csv in Notepad. This file contains the following header fields:

    IMAP_Mailbox,SMTP_Address,IMAP_Password,IMAP_Server

  3. For each IMAP4 user that you want to migrate, you must specify the mailbox name, SMTP address, password, and the IMAP server on which the mailbox resides. You can specify the fully qualified server name or the IP address for the server. The values must be separated by commas.

    Warning

Because the imapusr.csv file contains passwords in clear text, you must protect it from unauthorized disclosure. You should restrict access to this file to authorized users through NTFS permissions.
