Get-GlobalAddressList

Applies to: Exchange Server 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2011-03-19

Use the Get-GlobalAddressList cmdlet to return all the attributes of a global address list (GAL) or a set of GALs.

Get-GlobalAddressList [-Identity <GlobalAddressListIdParameter>] [-DomainController <Fqdn>] [-Organization <OrganizationIdParameter>]

Get-GlobalAddressList -DefaultOnly <SwitchParameter> [-DomainController <Fqdn>] [-Organization <OrganizationIdParameter>]

Parameter Required Type Description

DefaultOnly

Required

System.Management.Automation.SwitchParameter

The DefaultOnly parameter specifies the default GAL only.

DomainController

Optional

Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Fqdn

The DomainController parameter specifies the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller that retrieves data from Active Directory.

Identity

Optional

Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.GlobalAddressListIdParameter

The Identity parameter specifies the GUID, distinguished name (DN), or GAL name that represents a specific address list. You can also include the path by using the format Path\GlobalAddressListName.

You can omit the parameter label so that only the GAL name or GUID is supplied.

Organization

Optional

Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.OrganizationIdParameter

The Organization parameter is reserved for internal Microsoft use.

The Get-GlobalAddressList cmdlet is mainly used to populate the GAL property pages in the Exchange Management Console. This command doesn't provide a filtering capability. If filtering is required, you should use a WHERE clause with the command.

You need to be assigned permissions before you can run this cmdlet. Although all parameters for this cmdlet are listed in this topic, you may not have access to some parameters if they're not included in the permissions assigned to you. To see what permissions you need, see the "Global address lists" entry in the Mailbox Permissions topic.
