Recipient Configuration > Mailbox

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 SP3, Exchange Server 2007 SP2, Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Use the Mailbox node under Recipient Configuration for a variety of mailbox management tasks. You can create new mailboxes and modify, remove, move, or disable existing mailboxes. To learn more information about managing mailboxes, see Managing User Mailboxes. To learn more about mailboxes, see Understanding Recipients.

Note

To modify how mailboxes are displayed in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), click View in the action pane. For more information about view options, see How to Customize the Exchange Management Console.

Mailbox Objects in the Result Pane

When you select the Mailbox node under Recipient Configuration, the result pane lists the mailbox users, resource mailboxes, and linked mailboxes in your Exchange Server 2007 organization.

Important

Although Exchange 2007 supports shared mailboxes, it is a de-emphasized feature. You can only use the Exchange Management Shell to manage shared mailboxes. Shared mailboxes are not displayed in the Exchange Management Console. We recommend that you use resource mailboxes or Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server portals for collaboration instead of shared mailboxes. To learn more about converting a shared mailbox to a resource mailbox, see How to Convert a Mailbox.

When you select a mailbox, the action pane displays the actions that you can perform for the selected mailbox. The actions available for the mailbox are listed under the mailboxes' name. For information about the actions available for a mailbox, see Recipient Configuration > Mailbox > Mailbox.

To focus on a set of mailboxes that have specific attributes, you can use a variety of expressions to filter the list. For more information about filters, see How to Filter the Result Pane.

Managing Mailboxes Using the Action Pane

When you select the Mailbox node under Recipient Configuration, the following Mailbox-specific actions are available either by right-clicking Mailbox or by using the action pane.

  • Modify the Maximum Number of Recipients to Display

    • Click Modify Maximum Number of Recipients to Display to open the Maximum Number of Recipients to Display dialog box. You can use this dialog box to set the maximum number of recipients to display in the result pane.

    • By default, a maximum of 1,000 recipients is displayed. Increasing this value can be beneficial in very large environments. However, increasing the value also increases the time it takes to display the results. Depending on the size of your organization, it may also have a performance impact on the domain controller to which you are connected.

    • For more information about this dialog box, see Recipient Configuration > Maximum Number of Recipients to Display.

  • Find

    • Click Find to open the Find dialog box. You can use this dialog box to search for recipients in your organization. For more information about using the Find dialog box, see Using the Find Dialog Box.
  • New Mailbox

    • Click New Mailbox to open the New Mailbox wizard. This wizard will help you create a new user, room, equipment, or linked mailbox.

    • For more information about managing mailboxes, see Managing User Mailboxes.

  • Export List
