Application Public Folder Hierarchy Present

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool searches for the application public folder hierarchy in the Active Directory® directory service domain. When the Exchange Server Analyzer finds non-MAPI public folder trees, the Exchange Server Analyzer displays a warning. The warning indicates that non-MAPI public folder trees are present in the Exchange organization. These custom application trees are not supported in Exchange Server 2007.

Non-MAPI public folder trees are used for custom application development. These trees occur in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 but are not supported in Exchange 2007. It is recommended that before you deploy Exchange 2007 you either:

  • Move the non-MAPI public folder trees to a SharePoint Portal Server.

  • Maintain the data on the Exchange 2003 server.

For more information about different public folder hierarchies, see "Selecting the Appropriate Client for Exchange Public Folder Access" (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=46439).
