IIS Common Files are required

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007 setup cannot continue because Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Common Files are not installed on this server.

Microsoft Exchange Management Shell may require remote IIS Metabase access. The metabase is a repository for most IIS configuration values. Remote access to the metabase requires that the appropriate COM+ DLLs be installed on the local computer.

To resolve this issue, install the IIS Common Files on this server and then rerun Exchange 2007 setup.

To Install IIS Common Files by Using Control Panel on Windows Server™ 2003
  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  4. In the Components list click the Application Server check box.

  5. Click Details.

  6. In the Subcomponents of Application Server list click the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box.

  7. Click Details.

  8. Click the Common Files check box.

  9. Click OK until you are returned to the Windows Component Wizard.

  10. Click Next and complete the Windows Component Wizard.

To Install IIS 6 Compatibility by Using "Turn Windows features on or off" in Windows Vista
  1. Click Start, type programs and features in the Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list. If you are prompted to do so, enter your credentials, or click Continue.

  2. Under Tasks, click the Turn Windows features on or off link.

  3. In the Windows Features dialog box, expand Internet Information Services, expand Web Management Tools, and then expand IIS 6 Management Compatibility.

  4. Click to select both of the following check boxes:

    • IIS 6 Management Console

    • IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility

  5. Click OK.

To install IIS Common Files by Using Control Panel on Windows® XP
  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  4. In the Components list click the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box.

  5. Click Details.

  6. Click the Common Files check box.
