Perform a Remote Wipe on a Mobile Phone
Applies to: Exchange Server 2010 SP2
Topic Last Modified: 2012-04-24
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 lets you send a command to a mobile phone to perform a remote device wipe of that phone. This process removes all the information that’s stored on the phone. This includes Exchange information. This process then completes a full reset of the device. You can use the EMC or the Exchange Management Shell to perform a remote wipe on a mobile phone.
You can use this procedure to clear data from a stolen phone or to clear data from a phone before you assign it to another user.

| This topic also provides instructions for a user to use Microsoft Office Outlook Web App to perform a remote wipe on a phone. The user must be signed in to Outlook Web App to perform a remote wipe. |

"This process, known as a remote device wipe, clears all Exchange information that's stored on the mobile phone."
No it doesn't. It factory reset my phone and wiped the SD card into the bargain. Not happy.

Resets phone back to factory settings, no notification on the mobile device until the reboot. DOES NOT WIPE SD CARD. Any backups created and stored on the SD card are immediately accessible from the newly wiped phone. I wiped my phone, and within 15 minutes had it completely back up and running as it was prior using the SD card backup. Not secure in the least.

seems to wipe the unit to factory... and not just remove Exchange data - atleast on an iPhone. Can anybody else confirm this?
Removing the ActivEsync partnership in Exchange still keeps the contacts, calendars, etc on the device.
Remote wipe restores to factory.
No happy medium?
