EnableChangeNotification is non-default

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool reads the following registry value to determine whether file change notification for the Exchange Installable File System (ExIFS) has been enabled:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EXIFS\Parameters\ EnableChangeNotification

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the EnableChangeNotification key is present and configured with a value greater than 0, a non-default configuration message is displayed.

By default, file change notification is disabled for ExIFS. When ExIFS sends change notifications for a file or a directory, it does not clear the cached version of the file or directory. As a result, when an application such as Exchange Server or Microsoft SharePoint® Portal Server receives a change notification and reloads the file or directory, the application gets the cached version and not the newly modified file or directory.
