Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 SP3, Exchange Server 2007 SP2, Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Topic Last Modified: 2007-01-29

Use the New Mail Contact wizard to create a new mail contact in your Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 organization. Mail contacts are mail-enabled Active Directory directory service objects that contain information about people or organizations that exist outside your Exchange organization. Each mail contact has an external e-mail address.

noteNote:
You can also use the Exchange Management Shell to create a mail contact. For more information, see New-MailContact.

Use the Introduction page to select whether to create a new contact or to mail-enable an existing Active Directory contact.

New Contact
  • This button is selected by default. Click this button to create and mail-enable a new contact.

  • If you click this button, you will need to provide additional information for the contact on the Contact Information page of this wizard.

Existing Contact
  • Click this button to mail-enable an existing contact in Active Directory. When you click this button, the Browse button is enabled.

  • Click Browse to open the Select Contact dialog box. This dialog box displays a list of all contacts in the forest that are not mail-enabled. Select the contact that you want, and then click OK to return to the wizard.

    noteNote:
The list of contacts that is returned is dependent on the scope that is set for recipient configuration. The Select Contact dialog box displays only the contacts that are not mail-enabled and are within the specified scope. To learn more about changing the recipient scope, see Recipient Configuration > Recipient Scope.

To learn more about mail contacts, see Understanding Recipients.

For more information about managing mail contacts, see Managing Mail Contacts and Mail Users.
