How to Manually Import a Recipient's Encryption Certificate into the userCertificate Attribute of the User's Object in Active Directory

 

This topic explains how to manually import the recipient's encryption certificate into the userCertificate attribute of the user's object in Active Directory.

Before You Begin

Before performing this procedure, ensure that the recipient has an object in Active Directory.

Either at the console or through a terminal session, log on as a member of the Certification Authority Administrators group.

Procedure

To manually import the recipient's encryption certificate into the userCertificate attribute of the user's object in Active Directory

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Click View, click Advanced Features.

  3. On the console tree, click the Users folder.

  4. On the details pane, double-click one of the test users.

  5. Click the Published Certificates tab.

  6. Click Add from file, locate the file containing the recipient's encryption certificate, and then click Open.

  7. Click OK.
