Exchange Conferencing Server

What permissions do I need to install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server?

To install Exchange Conferencing Server, you need to be logged on to Active Directory as a user with the following permissions:

  • Exchange Full Administrator role at the Exchange 2000 Server organization level

  • Member of the local "Administrators" group on the target server

What permissions do I need to update Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server to Service Pack 2?

To update your Exchange Conferencing Server installation to Service Pack 2 (SP2), you need to be logged on to Active Directory as a user with the following permissions:

  • Exchange Full Administrator role at the Exchange 2000 Server organization level

  • Member of "Domain Admins" in the domain where the conferencing server resides

  • Member of the local "Administrators" group on the target server

You need to be a "Domain Admin" to update to SP2 because the installer creates a new Global Security Group in the "Users" container called "Exchange Conferencing Access Servers". This new group resolves past problems where non-Windows 2000 Server clients could not join secure conferences.

How do the Exchange Administrator roles affect Exchange Conferencing Server management?

The following table shows the different conferencing-related operations that administrators in various roles can perform.
