Topic Last Modified: 2006-09-22

Use the Mail Settings page to enter the information required to mail-enable the user. All fields on this page are required.

Alias

Use this text box to type the alias of the user. By default, the alias is automatically populated based on the User logon name (User Principal Name) of the user. If the user logon name contains any characters that are not valid for the alias field, they will be replaced by underscore characters (_).

The alias cannot exceed 64 characters and must be unique in the forest.

External e-mail address
  • Click Edit to open the SMTP Address dialog box. Use the E-mail address text box to type the external Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address for the mail contact. Click OK to return to the wizard.
    noteNote:
Exchange validates SMTP addresses for proper formatting. If your entry is inconsistent with the SMTP format, an error message will be displayed when you click OK.
  • You can also create a custom address for the mail user. To create a custom address, click the down arrow next to Edit, and then click Custom Address to open the Custom Address dialog box.
Use the E-mail address text box to type the custom e-mail address.
Use the E-mail type text box to specify the type of the new address. (The e-mail address type cannot exceed 9 characters.) Examples of custom e-mail types include X400, GroupWise, and Lotus Notes.
Click OK to return to the wizard.
