Moving Exchange Server 2003 to New Hardware

Topic Last Modified: 2007-03-07

This section explains how to move an existing Exchange Server 2003 to a new computer and how to keep the same server name on the new hardware. Exchange Server 2003 can be running Enterprise or Standard edition.

You could be moving the Exchange server to newer hardware because the organization's e-mail needs are growing. For more information about moving an Exchange Server 2003 and keeping the same server name, see How to Move Exchange Server 2003 to New Hardware and Keep the Same Server Name.

If you are moving an existing Exchange Server 2003 to new hardware and want to have a different server name, perform a Move Mailbox operation to move the mailboxes and then rebuild the Exchange server.
