How to Enable POP3 or IMAP4 Functionality on the Exchange Cluster Nodes

Topic Last Modified: 2005-05-05

This topic explains how to enable POP3 or IMAP4 functionality on Exchange Cluster nodes for the purposes of hardening an Exchange Cluster.

It is highly recommended that you read Running Exchange Server 2003 Clusters in a Security-Hardened Environment before implementing this procedure.

  1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, expand Member Servers, expand Exchange Backend Servers, right-click Exchange Cluster Node Servers, and then click Properties.

  2. On the Group Policy tab, click New to add a new GPO.

  3. In Exchange Cluster Nodes Properties, under Group Policy Object Links, type Exchange POP3 Cluster Node Policy, and then press ENTER.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. In Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration, expand Windows Settings, right-click Security Settings, and the click Import Policy.

  6. In Import Policy From, select the Clear this database before importing check box. Navigate to the location where you saved the Exchange 2003 Cluster Node template, and then double-click Exchange_2003-Cluster_Node_POP3_V1_1.inf.

  7. Close Group Policy Object Editor, and then click OK.

  8. To enable IMAP4 functionality, repeat Steps 2 through 7, substituting IMAP4 for POP3, and importing the Exchange_2003-Cluster_Node_IMAP4_V1_1.inf file in Step 6.
