How to Set up Your Infrastructure for Coexistence of Exchange and Windows Server POP3 Service

 

This topic explains how to set up your infrastructure for coexistence of Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 POP3 service. This topic applies to configuring Exchange Server and Windows Server POP3 service to coexist by using different SMTP mail domains. This topic also applies to configuring Exchange Server and Windows Server POP3 service to coexist by using a single SMTP mail domain.

Before You Begin

Before you perform the procedures in this topic, it is important that you first read Scenarios for Coexistence of the POP3 Service in Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003.

Procedure

To set up your infrastructure for coexistence of Exchange Server and Windows Server POP3 service

  1. Deploy Exchange Server and create mailboxes for each Exchange Server user, as you would in any Exchange Server deployment.

  2. Create a recipient policy for your Exchange Server users.

  3. Deploy the Windows Server POP3 service and create POP3 mailboxes for each POP3 user for the PO3P domain.
