Configure Your System for the AD RMS Prelicensing

[This is pre-release documentation and subject to change in future releases. This topic's current status is: Writing Not Started.]

Applies to: Exchange Server 2010 Beta

This topic explains how to configure the system to use the Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) Prelicensing agent.

The AD RMS Prelicensing agent is included in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1). You must be running Exchange 2007 SP1 on all Hub Transport servers in your organization to enable the AD RMS functionality in Exchange 2007.

Before You Begin

Windows RMS Client on Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Active Directory Rights Management Services client on Windows Server 2008 – X64 must be installed on the computer that has the Hub Transport server role installed. In addition, installation and configuration tasks are required for the server on which RMS Server on Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Active Directory Rights Management Services on Windows Server 2008 – X64 is installed. By default, the AD RMS Prelicensing agent is not enabled on the Hub Transport server when Exchange 2007 is installed. After you enable the AD RMS Prelicensing agent, no agent-specific tasks must be completed for Exchange 2007 e-mail recipients to receive e-mail messages where the authentication licensing has been completed.

Note

Windows Server 2008 includes several features that have been enhanced or renamed. For information about the feature changes between Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, see Terminology Changes.
