How to Replay DAT Files After an MTA Database Wipe

After you have performed an MTA database wipe, the messages in the .dat files that you moved out of the MTA database directory cannot be delivered until they are replayed. This topic provides links to the following three procedures for replaying .dat files after an MTA database wipe:

  • A complete replay (in which the .dat files are replayed all at once, and on the Exchange server where they originally resided).

  • A remote replay (in which the .dat files are replayed on an Exchange server other than the one on they originally resided)

  • An incremental replay (in which the .dat files are divided into several smaller groups, which are replayed one at a time).

Before You Begin

Before you perform the procedures in this topic, it is important to consider the differences among the three methods. For an overview of all three methods, see the section "Replaying DAT Files" in Exchange MTA in Exchange Server 2003 Architecture.
