The online defragmentation was interrupted and terminated. No user action is required. If you repeatedly receive event 704, some process or memory condition may be the cause.

Explanation

This Information event indicates that the online defragmentation of the database was interrupted. The defragmentation has ended. When online defragmentation is restarted on this database, it will resume from the point of interruption.

An online backup has been scheduled for the same time as online maintenance. If online maintenance has begun and an Exchange-aware online backup is initiated before online maintenance has completed, online maintenance will stop and then resume when the online backup is completed.

To learn more about the possible root cause of this event, review the Application log for other related events. Specifically, if error -1069 (0xfffffbd3) = Jet_errVersionStoreOutOfMemory is included in the event Description section of any MSExchangeIS events the version store may be running out of memory. Online defragmentation may not be able to complete if the version store is running out of memory.

User Action

No user action is required if this event occurs infrequently. However, if this event is logged repeatedly, this indicates that some process or memory condition may be interrupting online defragmentation. To resolve this event, do one or more of the following:

  • Schedule online maintenance to occur when an online backup is not scheduled. You can view or adjust the Exchange store maintenance period in the Exchange Management Console from the Mailbox Database Properties dialog box. To do this, right-click the database, and then click Properties. On the Generaltab, under Maintenance schedule, specify the time that you want maintenance to occur. To make sure that online defragmentation runs, you must allocate enough time for all eight of the online maintenance processes to complete and for online defragmentation to follow. Leave the default schedule of Run daily from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. If you change the schedule, do not shorten the maintenance interval. Do not set the maintenance interval at the same time as the online Exchange-aware backup is scheduled. Do not try to disconnect from the database during online maintenance because the disconnect may take several minutes to finish.

  • If you receive error -1069 (0xfffffbd3) = Jet_errVersionStoreOutOfMemory in the MSExchangeIS events in the Application log, contact Microsoft Product Support Services for help in troubleshooting.
