MOM Rule Name

Outlook Web Access failed to initialize - a required small icon configuration file does not exist; review MSExchangeOWA event 28 for the cause.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that Microsoft® Office Outlook® Web Access did not initialize because the small icon configuration file referenced in the event description does not exist. The small icon configuration file contains references to the icons used by each message type in Outlook Web Access. If this file does not exist, users cannot access their mailbox using Outlook Web Access.

User Action

To resolve this error, follow these steps to replace the small icon configuration file with the default file that is located on the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 DVD:

  1. Locate the SmallIcons.xml file in the Setup\ServerRoles\ClientAccess\owa folder on the Exchange 2007 DVD.

  2. Copy the SmallIcons.xml file to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\Owa folder on the computer that is running the Client Access server role, where C:\ is the directory to which you installed Exchange 2007.
