The transport process could not load poison message information from the registry

The Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Management Pack for Operations Manager monitors the Windows Application log on computers that are running Exchange Server 2007 and generates this alert when the event or events specified in the following Details table are logged.

To learn more about this event, do one or more of the following:

  • Review the description of the event that includes the variables specific to your environment. From the Operator Console, select this alert, and then click the Properties tab.

  • Review all events that have been logged that meet the criteria of this Operations Manager alert. From the Operator Console, click the Events tab, and then double-click the event in the list for which you want to review the event description.

The transport process could not load poison message information from the registry. Access to the registry failed with the specified error.

This Error event indicates the Microsoft Exchange Transport service could not load poison message information from the registry on the Hub Transport server or Edge Transport server.

Poison message information is stored in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Transport\PoisonMessage.

By default, the following permissions are granted to this registry key and all sub-keys:

  • Administrators: Full Control

  • System: Full Control

  • Network Service: Full Control

These permissions are usually inherited from the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Transport\.

To resolve this error, verify the following permissions are granted to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Transport\PoisonMessage:

  • Administrators: Full Control

  • System: Full Control

  • Network Service: Full Control
