Retention policy will not be applied to a folder because there was a failure in creating the folder hierarchy under the destination folder.

Explanation

This event indicates that the managed folder mailbox assistant could not re-create the source folder hierarchy under the destination folder to update managed content settings in a managed folder successfully. The managed folder mailbox assistant is a time-based Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistant that applies managed content settings to the managed default folders and managed custom folders in user mailboxes on scheduled intervals.

For more information about managed folders, managed content settings, managed folder mailbox policy, and the managed folder mailbox assistant, see Deploying Messaging Records Management at the Microsoft Exchange Server TechCenter.

The managed folder mailbox assistant re-creates the source folder hierarchy under the destination folder when it applies managed content settings in the source folder. For example, to create a subfolder called Personal under Inbox to a destination managed custom folder named Non Work Related, the managed folder mailbox assistant will create the hierarchy under Non Work Related folder as Non Work Related\Inbox\Personal.

This event occurs when such a hierarchy cannot be created under the destination folder.
