Write-Back Cache Not Enabled

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool has determined that your disk array controller does not have the write-back cache set correctly for the drives that host the transaction logs.

It is recommended that you enable the write-back cache to 100 percent on your array controller for all drives that host transaction logs. Transaction logs are rarely read from. The more write speed that is available to a transaction log drive, the better a server that is running Exchange Server will perform.

To correct this warning

  • Enable write-back cache.
