How to Create a Notification Subscription

This procedure details the steps needed for an administrator to configure a subscription so that users assigned the Operator role can subscribe to specified alerts. A subscriber can be an individual user account or a distribution list. Before completing this procedure you must enable a notification channel and then create a notification recipient.

To create a notification subscription

  1. Log on to the computer with an account that is a member of the Operations Manager Administrators role for the Operations ManagerĀ 2007 Management Group.

  2. In the Operations Console, click the Administration button.

    When you run the Operations Console on a computer that is not a Management Server, the Connect To Server dialog box displays. In the Server name text box, type the name of the Operations ManagerĀ 2007 Management Server that you want the Operations Console to connect to.

  3. In the Administration pane, expand Notifications, right-click Subscriptions, and then click New Notification Subscription. The Create Notification Subscription Wizard starts.

  4. On the General page, in Subscription name, type a descriptive name for the subscription, type a short description, and then click Add.

  5. The Add Notification Recipients dialog box displays all notification recipients were previously created. Click each recipient that you want to include in this subscription, click OK, and then click Next.

  6. On the User Role Filter page, if you want to limit the users that can subscribe to this notification subscription select Available groups and classes filtered by role, select a user role, and then click Next.

  7. On the Groups page, by default, all groups are selected to receive notifications. If you want to limit the groups that receive notifications, click to deselect the top-level group, and then click to select the groups. Otherwise, click Next.

  8. If you want to filter notifications so that only notifications of selected object types are sent click Only classes explicitly added to the Approved classes grid are approved, and then click Add to create a list of object types. Click Next.

  9. On the Alert Criteria page, verify that the desired severity, priority, and resolution states are selected for notification. Verify that the desired category is selected, and then click Next.

  10. On the Alert Aging page, click Use alert aging as a notification criteria if you want to use alert aging, otherwise click Next.

  11. On the Formats page, if you want to customize the format of the e-mail sent for notification click Use this custom e-mail format, and then define the custom e-mail format. Otherwise, click Finish.
