Event ID 10008

Clientsetup.exe fails with error 1920

Agent install fails with MSI Error 1603

If you encounter any of the following problems, make certain you are not trying to install or operate the Public Beta (formerly called Beta 2) release of Client Security after the expiration date of June 30, 2007.

Event ID 10008

Event ID 10008 is logged in the System log of Event Viewer, with the following description:

Error message

The description for event ID (10008) in Source (FcsSas) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.

Background

This event indicates that the beta evaluation period for this copy of Client Security has expired.

Solution

Install a retail version of Client Security when it becomes available.

Clientsetup.exe fails with error 1920

Client setup fails and logs the following error in clientsetup.log:

Error message

Error 1920: Service Microsoft Forefront Client Security State Assessment Service (FcsSas) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Background

Clientsetup.exe incorrectly reports error 1920, when the expiration date of the Public Beta release of Client Security has passed.

Solution

Install a retail version of Client Security when it becomes available.

Agent install fails with MSI Error 1603

When you attempt to install the Client Security agent, the installation fails and the FCSSSA.log file reports error 1603.

Background

The FCSSSA.log file incorrectly reports error 1603, when the expiration date of the Public Beta release of Client Security has passed.

Solution

Install a retail version of Client Security when it becomes available.
