Updating Required Components

After installing BDD 2007 and becoming familiar with Deployment Workbench, ensure that the components BDD 2007 requires are downloaded and installed. The following components are mandatory in BDD 2007:

• Windows AIK. The Windows AIK is available from the Microsoft Download Center at https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c7d4bc6d-15f3-4284-9123-679830d629f2&DisplayLang=en. If team members have already downloaded the Windows AIK, they can preinstall the component. They can also use Deployment Workbench to download and install it. If installing the Windows AIK on Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows XP SP2, also install KB926044 as described at the Download Center.

• MSXML Services 6.0. Team members can preinstall this component or use Deployment Workbench to download and install it. The Windows AIK distribution media include the MSXML 6.0 installation file. They can also download MSXML 6.0 from https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&DisplayLang=en. Download both x86 and x64 versions at this URL.

Note BDD 2007 temporarily stores updates in the %TEMP% folder. Between 1 and 4 gigabytes of free space is recommended for the hard drive containing the %TEMP% folder.

Deployment Workbench can download and install components. Complete the following steps to download and install components by using Deployment Workbench:

1. In Deployment Workbench, under Information Center, click Components.

2. In the Available for Download section of the Components list, shown in Figure 2, click a component; then, in the bottom pane, click Download.

   Deployment Workbench displays the download status in the Components list. When it finishes downloading the component, it moves the component to the Downloaded section in the right pane.

3. In the Downloaded section of the Components list, click a downloaded component; then, in the bottom pane, click Install to install the component or Browse to open the folder containing the component in Windows Explorer.

   Some components do not require installation or cannot be installed automatically by Deployment Workbench. After downloading a component that that Deployment Workbench cannot install automatically, open the folder containing the component, and then install the component manually.

   Tip   Check the Internet for updated components frequently. On the Deployment Workbench main menu, from the Action menu, click Check for Updates. On the Check for Updates page of the Check for Updates Wizard, select the Check the Internet check box, and then click Check.

   Note    The Offline servicing kernel patch (KB 926044) is required when using Deployment Workbench and the Windows AIK on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1.
