How to Change the Default MIF Storage Location

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

In order for a MIF file to be collected by hardware inventory, it must be located in the correct location on the client system. By default, the files should be located in the following directories:

  • IDMIF files should be located in %windir%\System32\CCM\Inventory\idmif.

  • NOIDMIF files should be located in %windir%\System32\CCM\Inventory\noidmif.

The MIF storage location can be changed after the client is installed by modifying the registry keys for IDMIF and NOIDMIF files, respectively.

To change the default storage location for IDMIF files

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER to start the registry editor.

  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Client\Configuration\Client Properties\IDMIF Directory

  3. Enter a new path.

  4. Exit the registry editor.

To change the default storage location for NOIDMIF files

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER to start the registry editor.

  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Client\Configuration\Client Properties\NOIDMIF Directory

  3. Enter a new path.

  4. Exit the registry editor.
