How to Add Software Updates to a Deployment

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Software update deployments in Configuration Manager 2007 can be added in the properties for the specific deployment or by dragging the selected software updates to a deployment.

noteNote
Only downloaded updates appear in the Add Software Update dialog box. To add software updates that have not been previously downloaded, either drag-and-drop the updates from the Configuration Manager console to a deployment or exit the deployment properties, follow the steps in How to Download Software Updates, and then open the Add Software Update dialog box again.

When new software updates are added to a deployment, the deployment properties are updated on the site server and clients will receive the updated deployment on their next machine policy cycle and the updates will be available for installation any time after the configured start time. The following procedures provide the steps necessary to add software updates to a deployment.

To add software updates from the deployment properties

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Management.

  2. In the results pane, right-click the desired deployment, and click Properties.

  3. Click the Software Updates tab. Click Add to open the Add Software Update dialog box.

  4. Browse for and select the software updates to add to the deployment, and then click OK.

To add software updates using the Deploy Software Updates Wizard

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates.

  2. Specify the software updates to be deployed. For more information, see How to Find Software Updates in Configuration Manager.

    noteNote
To select multiple software updates, press and hold CTRL and click each update to deploy.

  3. Start the Deploy Software Updates Wizard by dragging-and-dropping the highlighted software updates, or the update list, to a deployment. The configured settings for the deployment are maintained, and the wizard requests information only about the deployment package (if the update is not in an existing package), download location (if the update is not in an existing package), deployment schedule, and NAP effective date (if NAP is configured).

  4. Follow the steps in the wizard to add the software updates to the deployment.
