How to Deploy a Site Using Custom Setup

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

The custom setup installation option allows you to customize all the setup options available depending on the type of installation you have selected.

To deploy a site using custom setup

  1. Before running setup, ensure that you have properly prepared your computing environment to install Configuration Manager. If you are planning to deploy the site in native mode, ensure that you have deployed the necessary certificates before starting Configuration Manager Setup. For more information about the certificate requirements, see Certificate Requirements for Native Mode. For more information about Configuration Manager prerequisites, see Prerequisites for Installing Configuration Manager.

  2. Select Configuration Manager 2007 from the autorun screen (splash.hta), or start Setup.exe, from the Configuration Manager installation media, or from a copy of the installation media located on a network share or other storage media to start the Configuration Manager Setup Wizard.

  3. Click Next on the Welcome page.

  4. On the Available Setup Options page, select the Install a Configuration Manager Site Server option.

  5. Agree to the licensing terms on the License Agreement page.

  6. On the Installation Settings page, select the Custom Settings option.

  7. On the Site Type page, select Primary site.

  8. On the Customer Experience Improvement Program page, select a participation selection.

  9. On the Configuration Manager Product Key page, you must enter a valid product key.

  10. On the Destination Folder page, choose whether to accept the default, or specify an alternate installation directory for Configuration Manager program files.

  11. On the Site Settings page, enter a valid, and unique in the hierarchy, site code and site name.

  12. On the Configuration Manager Site Mode page, select the mode that the site will operate in after installation has completed.

    noteNote
    If you select native mode, you must also select a site server signing certificate.

  13. On the Configuration Manager Client Agents page, select the client agents to enable, with their default settings.

  14. On the Configuration Manager Database Server page, specify the Microsoft SQL Server NetBIOS name and database name or instance for setup to install the site database. The site database can be installed on a locally configured SQL Server instance on the site server, on a remote computer running SQL Server, or on a remote, clustered virtual SQL Server instance.

  15. On the SMS Provider Settings page, enter the NetBIOS name of the computer to install the SMS Provider on. The SMS Provider can be installed on the site server, on a remote computer running SQL Server and hosting the site database (except for clustered SQL Server instances), or on a third computer.

  16. On the Configuration Manager Management Point page, choose whether or not to install a management point during setup. The management point can be installed on the site server itself or on a remote server. If you choose to install a management point, you must specify the NetBIOS name of the server to install the management point site system role on.

  17. On the Configuration Manager Port Settings page, specify whether to use the default or an alternate port to be used for client-to-site-system communications.

    When specifying alternate ports for client-to-site-system communication, you must select an appropriate TCP/IP protocol for the site mode previously selected on the Configuration Manager Site Mode page. If you select to install the site in mixed mode, you must specify an http port. If you select to install the site in native mode, you must specify an https port.

  18. On the Updated Prerequisite Components page, select the appropriate option for obtaining client prerequisite component files. Files can either be downloaded as part of Setup, an alternate location where the client prerequisite component files have already been downloaded to can be used.

  19. On the Updated Prerequisite Component Path page, specify the path to store client prerequisite component files downloaded during Setup or the path to the alternate location where client prerequisite component files have previously been downloaded to.

    noteNote
    The Setup command line option Setup /download <path to files> can be used to download client prerequisite component files without running the complete Configuration Manager Setup wizard.

  20. On the Settings Summary page, review the summary details for the site installation before continuing. To make changes to any details, click Previous until you return to the page in the wizard where you set the detail. After making any necessary changes, return to the Summary page.

  21. When prerequisite checking has completed, review any messages in the results pane of the Prerequisite Check page to verify that all prerequisites have been met or that Configuration Manager Setup can resolve any prerequisites that have not been met for installation to continue. If Configuration Manager Setup cannot resolve issues found, review the ConfigMgrPrereq.log file located in the root of the system drive for more information about how to resolve any issues manually. When all discovered prerequisite check failures have been resolved, return to the Prerequisite Check page and re-run the setup prerequisites check.

    Configuration Manager Setup cannot continue until all prerequisite checks have completed with no errors.

  22. Review the installation steps on the Installation Status to verify the actions taken and their status as Configuration Manager is installing.

  23. The Completion page displays whether or not the installation was successful and the details of the primary site installation as well as the options to view the setup log file (ConfigMgrSetup.log) and launch the Configuration Manager console.
