Use the Contact Information page to enter the information needed to create or mail-enable the contact. The following fields are available for each new contact.

Note

If you are mail-enabling an existing contact, all of the fields except Alias and External e-mail address will be read-only.

  • Organizational unit

    • The default value of this field depends on the scope that is set for recipient configuration. To learn more about changing the recipient scope, see Recipient Configuration > Recipient Scope (RTM).

    • If the recipient scope is set to the forest, the default value is set to the Users container in the Active Directory directory service domain that contains the computer on which the Exchange Management Console is running. If the recipient scope is set to a specific domain, the Users container in that domain is selected by default. If the recipient scope is set to a specific organizational unit (OU), that OU is selected by default.

    • To select a different OU, click Browse. This opens the Select Organizational Unit dialog box. This dialog box displays all OUs in the forest that are within the specified scope. Select the desired OU, and then click OK to return to the wizard.

  • First name
Use this box to type the first name of the contact.
  • Initials
Use this box to type the middle initials of the contact.
  • Last name
Use this box to type the last name of the contact.
  • Name

    • Use this box to type the name of the contact.

    • This box is automatically populated based on the First name, Initials, and Last name fields. You can modify this field. The name cannot exceed 64 characters.

  • Alias

    • Use this box to type the alias of the contact.

    • This box is automatically populated based on the First name, Initials, and Last name fields, separated by underscore characters (_). You can modify this field.

    • The alias cannot exceed 64 characters and must be unique in the forest.

  • External e-mail address

    • Click Edit, to open the SMTP Address dialog box. Use the E-mail address box to type the external Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address for the mail contact. Click OK to return to the wizard.

      Note

Exchange validates SMTP addresses for proper formatting. If your entry is inconsistent with SMTP format, an error message is displayed when you click OK.

    • You can also create a custom address for the mail contact. To create a custom address, click the down arrow next to Edit, and then click Custom Address to open the Custom Address dialog box.

Use the E-mail address text box to type the custom e-mail address.

Use the E-mail type text box to specify the type of the new address. (The e-mail address type cannot exceed 9 characters.) Examples of custom e-mail types include X400, GroupWise, and Lotus Notes.

Click OK to return to the wizard.
