How to Export a Configuration Baseline in Desired Configuration Management
Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2
Configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 reference predefined configuration items and configuration baseline rules around those configuration items. After creating a configuration baseline, you can export it from Configuration Manager 2007 in a cabinet (.cab) file format and then import it to the same or different Configuration Manager 2007 site.
This procedure allows you to back up configuration baselines independently from a Configuration Manager 2007 full backup, and it can also be used to transfer configuration baselines from one Configuration Manager 2007 site to another.
|You cannot export configuration baselines that are imported or inherited from a parent site. These configuration baselines are displayed with a lock icon, and the option to export them will not be available. You can export configuration baselines that you have created when they contain configuration data that is imported or inherited.|
When you export a configuration baseline, it will also automatically export any referenced configuration items and dependent configuration baselines that have been created at that site. If the configuration baseline contains imported or inherited configuration data, the reference to these is included in the exported baseline, but the actual configuration data is not included. If the site doesn’t contain the referenced imported or inherited configuration data when the configuration baseline is imported, the import process will fail.
To export a configuration baseline
In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management / Configuration Baselines.
Right-click the configuration baseline you want to export, and select Export Configuration Data.
In the Save As dialog box, type in a file name for the saved configuration baseline and click Save.
