Deploy Software Updates Wizard: Deployment Template Page

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Use the Template Selection page in the Configuration Manager 2007 Deploy Software Updates Wizard to specify whether a previously created deployment template should be used. Deployment templates contain many of the software update deployment properties and can be used when creating deployments to ensure consistency among similar deployments and to save time. The following properties are saved in the deployment template:

  • Name and description: Specifies the name and description of the deployment template.

  • Collection: Specifies the collection that is targeted for the software update deployment. Templates can be created without a collection so that one deployment template can be used during a phased deployment where collections change over time.

  • Display/Time Settings: Specifies whether users are notified of pending software updates and see the update installation progress, whether a client evaluates the deployment schedule based on local time or UTC, and the duration setting that is used to set the default deadline time in a deployment.

  • Restart Settings: Specifies the system restart behavior when a software update installs on a client and requires a restart to complete, and whether system restarts are allowed outside of configured maintenance windows.

  • Event Generation: Specifies whether to disable Microsoft Operations Manager alerts during software update installation and whether an Operation Manager alert is created when a software update installations fails.

  • Download Settings: Specifies the behavior for software update installation when clients are within a "slow or unreliable" network boundary and when clients are within the boundaries of a protected distribution point that does not contain the software update.

  • SMS 2003 Settings: Provides the option to deploy software updates to SMS 2003 clients.

Templates that Specify SMS 2003 Settings

When deployment templates are created with the Deploy software updates to SMS 2003 clients setting enabled, the template will be available on the Deployment Template page of the Deploy Software Updates Wizard only when all software updates can be deployed to SMS 2003 clients. For example, if the software updates that are being deployed all have a value of Yes for the Deployable to SMS2003 setting, the Deploy Software Updates Wizard will show all templates regardless of configured SMS 2003 settings. If the software updates that are being deployed have a value of No for the Deployable to SMS 2003 setting, the Deploy Software Updates Wizard will not show templates that have the SMS 2003 settings configured.
