How to Remove the Software Update Point

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

An active software update point is required in Configuration Manager 2007 to synchronize software updates metadata with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), scan Configuration Manager client computers for software updates compliance, and deploy software updates to Configuration Manager client computers. Each site can have one or more software update point site systems created, but there is only one active software update point that accepts both intranet-based and Internet-based communication from client computers, or there are 2 active software update points; one that accepts intranet-based communication from client computers and one that accepts Internet-based communication from client computers.

When an active software update point is removed, software updates might be prevented from working throughout the Configuration Manager hierarchy depending on where in the hierarchy the software update point is located. Use the following procedure to remove a software update point site system role.

Procedure

To remove the software update point site system role

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> - <site name> / Site Settings / Site Systems / \\<server name>.

  2. Right-click ConfigMgr Software Update Point, and then click Delete.

  3. Click Yes to confirm the software update point deletion. Removing the software update point might prevent software updates from working properly throughout the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy.
