How to Use Configuration Manager Remote Control from the Command Line

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Configuration Manager 2007 supports launching the remote tools application from the Windows command line. The methods for launching this differ for the Windows 2000 remote tools and the newer remote tools for Windows XP and later.

Procedures

To launch remote tools from the Command Line for Windows XP

  • To launch remote tools from the command line you must provide the required arguments. Open a command prompt and provide the following information:
    RC.exe <address type> <address or resource ID> [\\Site Server Name\]

    noteNote
The first address type represents the Configuration Manager 2007 Resource ID, and the second address type represents the IP address or host name of the computer you want to remote control. If the Configuration Manager 2007 database is located on different computer you must also provide the Site Server Name.

You can launch remote tools with no command line arguments; however the remote control viewer will be launched with no active connection. To establish a connection, select File - Connect and configure a remote connection.

To launch remote tools from the Command Line for Windows 2000

  • To launch remote tools from the command line you must provide the required arguments. Open a command prompt and provide the following information:
    Remote.exe <address type> <address or resource ID> [\\Site Server Name\]

    noteNote
The first address type represents the Configuration Manager 2007 resource ID and the second address type represents the IP address or host name of the computer you want to remote control. If the Configuration Manager 2007 database is located on different computer you must also provide the Site Server Name.

SCCM Remote Control without the Console      Chad Simmons   |   Edit   |   Show History
It appears all that is needed is rc.exe and rdpencom.dll to use SCCM remote control with a Windows XP computer.
Putting these two files in a folder that is shared to the SCCM Remote Control users group is an efficient way to allow IT Admins to use the tool without installing the SCCM Console.
