Adding or Removing a Service

Adding or Removing a Service

To administer the Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) environment, first add the MSS services to a group. For information on creating a group, see Creating or Removing a Group.

This topic assumes that a Web server has first been prepared to host one or more speech applications in the managed MSS environment. This task is not managed through Microsoft Management Console (MMC). For more information, see Preparing the Web Server.

Services that are managed by MSS include:

  • Telephony Application Services (TAS)

  • Speech Engine Services (SES)

  • Speech Application Deployment Service (SADS)

Note Typically, SADS is installed on the Web server rather than on the computer running SES or TAS. Therefore, it may be necessary to add SADS in a separate step, first specifying the Web server.

To add services to a group

  1. Open the MMC Administration console. (For instructions, see Administering Speech Server Using MMC.)

  2. In the console tree, right-click the group, and then click Add/Remove Services.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Under Server name, enter the computer name where MSS is installed.

  5. Specify which services to add to the group for this computer by selecting the applicable check boxes:

    • Speech Engine Services

    • Telephony Application Services

    • Speech Application Deployment Service

  6. To specify a secure connection to the Web server, check Use https.

  7. To search for SADS in a specific location, click the browse button (...) and enter the new location.

  8. Click OK. Only the selected services are added to the group, even if other services are running on the specified computers.

Note If the services are not added to the group as expected, see Troubleshooting.

To remove services from a group

  1. Open the MMC Administration console. (For instructions, see Administering Speech Server Using MMC.)

  2. In the details pane, right-click the applicable group, and click Add/Remove Services.

  3. Select the Service Type for the applicable computer, and then click Delete.
