Configuring Speechify

Configuring Speechify

SpeechWorks Speechify, from ScanSoft Inc., is the text-to-speech (TTS) engine included with Microsoft Speech Server 2004 (MSS). This engine provides the voice that callers hear when an application must synthesize speech output, rather than use prerecorded prompts.

For more information, see the Prompt Engine section in the topic Producing Speech Output.

Speechify provides both a male and female voice for English-only applications. "Jill" is the female voice, and "Tom" is the male voice. "Jill" is the default voice used by applications unless otherwise specified.

When additional language packs are installed, different voices are provided. For the Spanish (U.S.) engine, "Javier" is the male voice and "Paulina" is the female voice. For the French (Canada) engine, "Felix" is the male voice.

For more information about configuring Speechify, see Speechify Help in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for MSS, or the Speechify User's Guide (click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Speechify).
