Installing the Speech Add-ins

Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) contains two different client components for use with multimodal applications:

  • The Speech Add-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer. This component is installed and run on client computers with Microsoft Internet Explorer, such as desktop, notebook, and Tablet PC computers. This component is provided on the Microsoft Speech Application SDK Version 1.1 (SASDK) CD. For installation instructions, see the SASDK Help.

  • The Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer. This component is installed and run on Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile 2003 with Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer. This component is provided on the MSS 2004 CD. See the following sections for installation instructions.

    Note  MSS supports only client computers connected to the local intranet.

Making the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer Available on the Network

When the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer is available on the network, speech application users can download and install the Speech Add-in.

To make the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer installer available on the network

  1. Insert the MSS 2004 CD into the CD drive.

  2. Open My Computer, right-click the CD drive icon, and then click Explore.

  3. Double-click Redistributable Installers.

  4. Copy the Speech Add-in for Pocket Internet Explorer folder to a server that users can access from their own computers.

Installing the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer

The Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer stand-alone installer enables speech application users to install the Speech Add-in and run speech-enabled Web pages using Pocket Internet Explorer.

Note  To run speech-enabled Web pages on Pocket Internet Explorer, the Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC (Pocket PC) device must also be connected to a 802.11b network or better, and the speech-enabled Web pages must be hosted on Microsoft Speech Engine Services (SES).

To install the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer

  1. Locate the server that hosts the Speech Add-in, and then locate the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer folder.

  2. Dock the the Pocket PC device to establish an ActiveSync connection.

  3. In the Speech Add-in for Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer folder, double-click Setup.exe to open the installation wizard, and follow the instructions on the screen.
