Configuring Windows with IIS and ASP.NET

Use either of the following procedures to install the Internet Information Services (IIS) and ASP.NET components of Windows Server 2003.

To use the Configure Your Server Wizard

  1. After installing Windows Server 2003, click Start, and then click All Programs.

  2. Click Administrative Tools.

  3. Click Configure Your Server Wizard.

  4. Click Application Server.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  6. When finished, verify that the World Wide Web Publishing service and the IIS Admin service for IIS are started.

To use Control Panel

  1. After installing Windows Server 2003, click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.

  3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  4. In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Application Server check box.

  5. Click Details.

  6. Select the ASP.NET check box.

  7. Select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box (do not change the defaults).

  8. Click OK.

  9. When finished, verify that the World Wide Web Publishing service and the IIS Admin service are started.

    Note  The Windows Installation CD may be required to complete this process.

To verify service status

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Administrative Tools.

  3. Double-click Services.

  4. In the Name column, check that IIS Admin and World Wide Web Publishing are started (in the Status column).

  5. If either service is stopped or paused, right-click the service, and then click Start.

  6. Click Internet Information Services, and then click Web Sites.

  7. To verify that the default Web site is running, right-click Default Web Site, and ensure that the Start menu item is dimmed.
