Installing Prerequisite Software

This topic lists software that must be installed prior to installing Microsoft Speech Server (MSS).

MSS Wizard Prerequisites Page

The Prerequisites page of the MSS Setup wizard detects the presence of required programs and versions.

• If the Setup wizard finds the required version, appears next to the listing. No additional action is required for this prerequisite.

• If a required program is not detected or is found to be an incorrect version, appears next to the listing, followed by a link to an installer, a Help topic, or a Web location to download the proper installer.

• When all prerequisites are installed, "Detect and Install Prerequisites – Found" is displayed, and the links are disabled.

In this topic, "Windows Server 2003" denotes "Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition" unless otherwise indicated.

Remarks

IIS installation requires only the World Wide Web Publishing service and ASP.NET. FTP, NNTP, and other IIS services are not required.

Installing certain prerequisites may temporarily interrupt the World Wide Web Publishing service.

MSS requires at least one computer that is configured as a Web server. For more information, see Installing a Web Server.

Certain speech applications may not install or function correctly on a computer that has both .NET Framework version 1.0 and .NET Framework version 1.1 installed. To resolve this issue, see the Enterprise Instrumentation Framework release notes provided on the MSS CD. More information is provided in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

It is important to install ASP.NET 1.1 before installing .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. If you install ASP.NET 1.1 on a computer that already has .NET Framework 1.1 SP1, you will satisfy the prerequisite detection (), but you may need to reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 to update the ASP.NET components.
