Enable or Disable Synchronization

Use these steps to enable or disable automatic updates (change-based and interval-based synchronization) for the entire cluster or to enable or disable on-demand synchronization for a cluster member. Change-based synchronization occurs whenever content on the cluster controller is updated. Interval-based synchronization occurs at a preset interval to confirm that content is identical among the cluster members.

To enable or disable automatic updates for the cluster

Use this setting to enable and disable automatic updates for all members in the synchronization loop. If enabled, the controller will attempt to synchronize every member that is in the synchronization loop. If this setting is disabled cluster, member, and application synchronizations can still be done.

  1. In the Application Center snap-in, right-click the cluster, and then on the pop-up menu, click Properties.

  2. On the General tab, select or clear the Enable automatic updates check box.

To enable or disable synchronization on a specific member

Use this setting to take a specific member out of the synchronization loop and disable all sychronizations except advanced synchronization and deployments. The other members' synchronizations are not affected by taking the specified member out of the synchronization loop.

Bb687401.note(en-us,TechNet.10).gif Note   This setting cannot be changed on the cluster controller and is always enabled.

  1. In the Application Center snap-in, right-click the cluster member, and then on the pop-up menu, click Properties.

  2. In the member_name Properties dialog box, select or clear the Include this member in synchronizations check box.

Summary of Synchronization Enablement

The following table summarizes the different methods for enabling and disabling synchronization and lists the types of synchronization that are enabled and/or disabled for each method.
