Join this webcast to find out how Microsoft, like many large organizations, relies on SAP AG enterprise resource planning (ERP) products to manage the day-to-day operations of its business. Newer SAP releases require the use of the Unicode codepage. In an effort to cause the least impact to SAP users and interfaces, minimize downtime, and equal pre-conversion SAP system performance, Microsoft IT developed a process that streamlined the conversion process requirements from one week to 22 hours. Only 15 of those hours were required for the actual conversion process. This process included exporting data through multiple servers, minimizing export and import times, and splitting large tables into as many as 13 packages. • How Microsoft IT Manages a SAN-based Enterprise Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server Infrastructure (Level 300)
    Published: 07/17/07 Podcasts added: 07/20/07
Historically, Microsoft has used a variety of internal tools, such as Source Depot and Product Studio, to manage the software development process. In 2005, Microsoft decided to standardize the software development process and deliver a consistently high level of service support for it. To do this, Microsoft IT implemented Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, and now supports it across multiple product development teams. Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server provides efficient, secure, and reliable storage for crucial assets like source code files, business requirements, and artwork. In this webcast, we learn how Microsoft IT partnered with the Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server development team and the Microsoft IT data center to provide a centrally managed Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server environment that uses the Microsoft data center environment to provide storage area network (SAN)-based data storage capacity. Because Microsoft IT was the first environment to run Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server for so many teams, the team encountered application performance issues. Microsoft IT discovered that, based on different deployment scenarios, multiple configurations were required for unique server and data storage capacity needs. By establishing the multiple configurations, Microsoft IT was able to meet the performance and storage capacity needs of different types of development groups.

  • How Microsoft IT Uses SQL Server 2005 to Power a Global Forensic Data Security Tool (Level 300)
Published: 06/19/07 PowerPoint Presentation added: 11/19/07
The Microsoft Information Security team uses an internal tool called Information Security Consolidated Event Management (ICE) version 3.0 to gather forensic data from more than 85 proxy servers around the world. Powered by Microsoft SQL Server 2005, this 27-terabyte data management system collects different types of global evidence, such as inbound and outbound e-mail traffic, log-on events, and Web browsing, into a single database. Join this session to learn how ICE 3.0 provides rapid security analysis and queries, robust proxy performance analysis, and extensive troubleshooting functionality. We discuss how table-level partitions allow event processing and database loading without affecting the ongoing query activities and analysis work of security forensics engineers. Storage area networks (SAN) manage enterprise storage for ICE 3.0, and the service maintains an uptime of nearly 99.9%. A controller application dynamically launches multiple instances of Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), which seamlessly responds to changes in the volume of incoming evidence. This tool was redesigned in 2006 using SQL Server 2005. Join us for a closer look at how this SQL Server upgrade enhanced the data feed process and query response time, expanded the data retention period, and reduced manual data loading and data validations.
