The remote tools feature in Configuration Manager 2007 allows permitted viewers to access any client computer in the Configuration Manager 2007 site that has the remote tools client agent components installed.
|Configuration Manager 2007 remote tools are not supported on computers running 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 prior to Configuration Manager 2007 SP2.|
Remote control is a subfeature of the remote tools application. You can use remote control to view or operate a computer anywhere in the Configuration Manager 2007 site hierarchy. You can use remote control to troubleshoot hardware and software configuration problems on remote client computers and to provide remote help desk support when access to the user's computer is necessary. Configuration Manager 2007 supports remote control both of Workgroup computers and of computers joined to a domain. To use remote control on a client computer, the Configuration Manager 2007 administrator must be added to the Permitted viewers list in the Security tab of the Remote Tools Client Agent Properties dialog box.
To use remote tools, the option Enable Remote Tools on clients must be selected in the Remote Tools Client Agent Properties dialog box. The Configuration Manager remote tools client agent is based on the collaboration technology developed for Windows Vista, which utilizes the RDP protocol. To maintain consistency with the Configuration Manager remote tools client agent, some of the Windows 2000 remote tools have been removed. For more information see, What's New in Remote Tools for Configuration Manager.
Both the Configuration Manager and the Windows 2000 remote tools are started in the same way from the Configuration Manager 2007 console. You can use the Configuration Manager 2007 Remote Tools Client Agent Properties dialog box to override user configured settings for Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance, if you prefer to use these methods of remote administration.
