Conflicting Records

Updated: May 1, 2012

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 uses the hardware ID to attempt to identify clients that might be duplicates and alert you to the conflicting records. For example, if you have to reinstall a computer, the hardware ID would be the same but the GUID used by Configuration Manager 2007 might be changed. If the Advanced tab of the Site Server Properties is configured to Manually resolve conflicting records, client records with duplicate hardware IDs are displayed in this node and you must decide whether to merge the duplicate records, create a new record for the duplicate hardware ID, or create a new client record but block that client.

noteNote
You must have Modify Resource and Read Resource permission on any collection containing a conflicting record to reconcile the conflicting records that appear in the Conflicting Records node.

The Conflicting Records node allows you to perform the following actions on conflicting records:

Merge
Combines the newly detected record with the existing client record to create one unified record. Select this action if a computer has been recovered and you want to retain the previous client identity for reporting purposes.

New
Creates a new record for the conflicting client record. Select this action if you mistakenly have computers showing up with duplicate records, for example if you have imaged computers without first removing unique identifying information.

Block
Creates a new record for the conflicting client record but marks it as blocked.
