Introduction to the Command-Line Tool

Published: April 23, 2001

Summary

The purpose of this series of articles is to provide an introduction to the Application Center 2000 Command-Line Tool. The Command-Line Tool provides a convenient alternative for administration and management of Application Center 2000. The tool supports five primary administrative functions, making it substantially easier and more efficient for administrators to automate management tasks, at times when working within the user interface is either insufficient or undesirable.

This article, the first in a series, discusses the benefits of working with the command-line. By using the Command-Line Tool and the Microsoft Windows® Script Host (WSH) together, you can query and modify Application Center 2000 configurations and applications in several different ways. With knowledge of the command-line, administrators can create scripts that do everything from configuring clusters to managing load-balancing solutions.

Note: At the time of writing, Application Center 2000 is at the beta 2 stage of development. Therefore, this documentation is preliminary, in development, and subject to change.
