Troubleshooting Operating System Deployment Using Custom Error Codes

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

The following table lists Operating System Deployment custom error codes, possible problems and possible solutions.

Error Code Possible Problem Possible Solution

0x80040001

Could not get the client GUID

Check whether the machine has been imported to the site database. Refer to clientidmgr.log in MP location for details.

0x80040101

Network access account is not set

Check the admin UI to make sure Network Access Account is set

0x80040102

No content location returned for the given package

Check the server side to make sure the package is distributed to at least one distribution point. Also check whether advertisement allows the task sequence to fall back to remote distribution point when there is no local distribution point

0x80040103

Could not access package content in the distribution point

Make sure Network Access Account is set correctly. Check the underline network connectivity.

0x80040104

Could not find reference program policy

Make sure the reference program policy is downloaded locally. Check policy agent log for details.

0x80040105

Could not find CCM_ClientAgentConfig raw policy

Make sure policy is downloaded locally. Check policy agent log for details.

An invalid image capture path has been specified.

Enter a valid path.

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,2)

An invalid image file name extension has been specified.

Enter a valid file name extension (.WIM)

An invalid image file name has been specified.

Enter a valid file name.

Image capture path is too long

Enter a valid path

An invalid image file name has been specified.

Enter a valid file name

Timeout waiting for PNP to finish initialization.

Check windows logs

Task sequence failed in Windows PE

Check the smsts.log file for more information.

An invalid network adapter index has been specified

The given network adapter was not found. Please verify that the correct drivers are installed.

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,1)

Sysprep is not installed

Install correct version of sysprep

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,2)

Sysprep is invalid

Install correct version of sysprep

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,3)

Invalid System Partition

Check OSD documentation for supported file system types.

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,4)

Machine is joined to a domain

Un-join the domain and rerun

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,5)

Machine is domain controller

Domain controllers cannot be used as reference machines

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,1)

A default management point has not been assigned for this site.

Set a default management point

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,2)

Certificates for the default management point are not available.

Try again

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,3)

Package {0} is not available on the specified distribution points.

Assign package to a distribution point

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,4)

Invalid password for media certificate

Provide a valid password

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,5)

The media certificate does not have an associated private key

Create a media certificate with a private key

MAKE_HRESULT(SEVERITY_ERROR,FACILITY_ITF,6)

The certification authority certificate has not been set for this site.
