Unable to Install Exchange 2007 Client Access Server in Existing Exchange 2003 Organization

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 SP1, Exchange Server 2007 Topic Last Modified: 2007-08-14

This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Setup if Setup fails to install the Client Access server role into an existing Exchange Server 2003 organization with the following error:

Error:Exchange server <domain> /Configuration/Deleted Objects/Servers <removed Exchange 2003 server name> /Enterprise

<removed Exchange 2003 server name> was not found. Please make sure you have typed correctly

This issue occurs when the Exchange 2003 server was removed. However, either the removal method was unsupported, or the server was not completely removed. Attributes that reference the removed Exchange 2003 server remain in the Active Directory directory service, but Active Directory cannot find the server because it has been removed.

To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to help you remove any attributes of or references to the removed Exchange 2003 server. We do not recommend that you remove these attributes and references on your own without the help of product support.

To contact product support, see Microsoft Help and Support.
