How to Configure Virtual Networks on a Host

This topic provides step-by-step instructions for configuring existing virtual networks on host and for adding a virtual network on a host.

Use the following procedure to configure a virtual network on a virtual machine host.

To configure a virtual network on a host

  1. In Hosts view, navigate to the host group that contains the host, and then, in the results pane, double-click the host.

  2. Click the Hardware tab, double-click Virtual Networks in the left pane, and then click the virtual network you want to configure.

  3. In the Name box, type a name for the virtual network.

  4. In the Description box, type a description.

  5. In the Physical network adapter list, do one of the following:

    1. Click None (Guests Only) to configure an internal network.
    2. Click a physical network adapter on the list to configure an external network.
  6. If you want the network to include a virtual Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), in the Virtual DHCP server area, select the Enabled check box and then click Configure.

  7. In the Virtual DHCP Server Settings dialog box, configure the settings as you would for a physical computer. For more information about DHCP settings, see the "DHCP server role: Configuring a DHCP server" (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=103037).
