How to Open a Report

To open a report in Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), use the Open report action in Reporting view. Reporting view is displayed only after you deploy the Server Virtualization Management Pack, set up your Reporting Server, and enable reporting in Virtual Machine Manager. For more information, see Setting Up Reporting.

To view and open reports in Virtual Machine Manager, you must be added to the Report Operator role in Operations Manager. Ask your Operations Manager administrator to set this up.

As a Report Operator, you can order, schedule, and design reports in the Operations Console on your Operations Manager server. If you add your own reports to the folder that stores the Virtual Machine Manager reports, the reports are available in Reporting view in Virtual Machine Manager also.

You can use the following procedures to view, print, and export a report in Reporting view and to work with VMM reports in the Operations Console of Operations Manager.

Note

For more information about VMM reports and instructions for setting up reporting in Operations Manager, see the Server Virtualization Management Pack Guide (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=85858). For additional help with reports, see Operations Manager 2007 Online Help.

To open a report in Reporting view

  1. In the Virtual Machine Manager Administrator Console, display Reporting view, and then click Reports in the navigation pane. It might take a few seconds for the reports to display in the results pane.

  2. Click the report that you want to open, and then, in the Actions pane, click Open report.

  3. In the report dialog box, enter report parameters specific to the report. For example, for the Host Utilization Report, enter a Start Date and End Date and specify which hosts to report on.

The Computer Group field is used to select a computer group in Operations Manager. To avoid accidentally filtering out computers that you intended to report on, select All Computers or Windows Servers. The report will filter the selection to computers that perform a specific role in Virtual Machine Manager.

To select a specific host for the report, you must enter a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that will resolve on the Operations Manager server in the Host field.

  4. To display the report, click View Report.

  5. To view a description of the report, expand Description at the top of the report. A summary of the parameters that you used to produce the report is displayed beneath the description. If you want to hide the parameters, click the View or Hide Parameter Area button on the toolbar.

  6. To print the report:

    1. To view the print layout for the report, click the Print Layout button on the toolbar.
    2. To change the print layout, click the Page Setup button.
    3. To print the report, click the Print button.
  7. To export the report to a file:

    1. Click the Export button on the toolbar.
    2. Select the format in which you want to save the report: XML, CSV (Comma -Separated Values), TIFF (graphic), Acrobat (PDF), Web archive, or Excel.
  8. To view a multipage report:

    1. Use the arrow buttons on the toolbar to move backward and forward through the pages of the report.
    2. To move to a specific page, type the page number in the text box between the arrow buttons, and then press ENTER.
    3. To search for text in the report, type the text in the Find box, and then click Find.
  9. To update the data in the report, click the Refresh button on the toolbar. Operations Manager updates its data warehouse every hour. By using the Refresh button, you can update the data in an open report without running the report again.
