Upgrading

There are three upgrade scenarios that you can perform for the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) 2007 products:

  • Evaluation Edition VHD to VMM Standard
  • Evaluation Edition to VMM Standard
  • Beta 2 to VMM Standard

Upgrading to Virtual Machine Manager Standard

To upgrade from Evaluation Edition VHD or Evaluation Edition, uninstall VMM by using the Retain data option, and then run Setup to install the standard version of VMM. When you install the standard version of VMM, select the Use an existing instance of SQL Server option on the Installation Settings page of Setup. Enter the SQL instance name and Database name of the retained database to complete the upgrade.

Note

Uninstalling does not uninstall the VMM agents. You can uninstall host and library agents locally or after you install the new version, you can update the agents by using the Update Agent action in the VMM Administrator Console. Prerequisite software that was installed with VMM is not uninstalled. If you wish to uninstall the prerequisites, use Add or Remove Programs after the wizard completes. Any Windows Firewall exceptions you created when you installed VMM are not removed.

Upgrading to Virtual Machine Manager Standard from Beta 2

Because of changes in the final version of Beta 2, some additional steps are needed. To upgrade the Beta 2 version to the released version of VMM, you must follow the instructions in the Upgrade Guide at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69928 (requires Windows Live ID sign in).
