How to Add and Display Custom Properties for a Virtual Machine
Use the Custom Properties tab in Virtual Machine Properties to assign as many as 10 custom properties to a virtual machine. You can add columns for custom properties to the results pane, and then you can sort or group your virtual machines by those properties.
The following procedures tell how to add custom properties to a virtual machine and provide two methods for adding the custom properties to virtual machine displays.
To add custom properties to a virtual machine
In Virtual Machines view (for deployed virtual machine) or Library view (for a stored virtual machine, double-click the virtual machine in the results pane to open Virtual Machine Properties dialog box.
Click the Custom Properties tab.
Enter values in any of the 10 numbered custom property fields.
To display custom properties for virtual machines
In Virtual Machines view or Library view, display virtual machines in the results pane.
To add a custom property column to the table, right-click anywhere in the column headers, and then click the custom property.
To sort the virtual machines alphanumerically by the custom field entries, click the column header for the custom field.
To position the column, drag the column header left or right in the header row to where you want the column.
To group virtual machines by the custom property, select the property in the Group by box.
To display custom properties for virtual machines by using Select Columns
In Virtual Machines view or Library view, display virtual machines in the results pane.
On the toolbar, click Select Columns.
In the Select Columns dialog box, select the check box for each custom property that you want to add to the results display.
To change the order of the columns, highlight a column header and click Move Up or Move Down.
To group virtual machines by the custom property, select the property in the Group by box.
