Virtual Machine Manager Library Server Software Requirements

The following software must be installed prior to adding a Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) library server:

  • An operating system supported by VMM.
For more information about operating systems supported by VMM, see Supported Operating Systems for Virtual Machine Manager.

  • Windows Remote Management (WinRM).
For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 R2, you must install this software from the following site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=84599.

    Important

For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, if you have previously enabled WinRM by using the Management and Monitoring Tools components group in Add/Remove Windows Components, it will not work with Virtual Machine Manager. You must disable WinRM and then install this software from the following site https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=84599.

To create a new virtual machine that has a blank virtual hard disk and store it directly to a library server, the library server must have one of the following versions of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 installed:

  • Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 or above.
  • Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 x64 SP1 or above.

Note

Alternately, when you create a new virtual machine that has a blank hard disk, you can deploy it to a host, and then store it in the library.
